Hi everyone, this may be a dumb question but here goes. I have a 55 gallon tank with 4 2 and half inch africans 2 firemouths and 2 green severums. my questio is this, my fish swim around nicely and seem very happy but from time to time they have strings hanging from there anuses. I know it could just be dung but it doesnt seem to fall off very easily. As in hanging for 2 3 hours sometimes. IS this a problem or is it natural?

Is the fecial matter white and wormy looking?

It's possible that your fish have internal parasites.

When your fish grow, you will have an overstocked tank anyways :(

Firemouths are fine in a 55 gallon.

But, two severums need a 55 gallon to THEMSELVES.

Africans and Americans unfortunatley don't mix well because they have different diet requirements (assumming you have mbuna) aswell as different water requirements.

What you could is fast (don't feed) your fish for a few days so they can clear their system and weakens the parasites (which need a food source), that way when you go to medicate your fish, then it may be easier to eraticate the worms
