Watching my convict fry, I noticed a few (or mabey its just 1 really fast one) that have not grown much. all the others have all thier fins showing, are about 1/4", and are getting thier colors. The "runts" don't yet have any color, are still about 1/8th" and it doesn't seem thier fins have developed. So are they really just little guys, or is there something wrong with them? They seem to eat and there not being picked on by thier brothers and sisters when I'm looking. Nate? You're the resident convict breeder right? Any clues? Thanx in advance.

I got a runt in one of my yellow labs spawns. Fish are always different sizes as they grow... but this guy was a true runt. I always thought he would die... but low and behold several months later he's still kicking and is about 1/3 the size of the rest. Amazingly, his colors have ended up brighter.
not cons but my 2 cents :D

my HRP's are the same way.....two of them are outgrowing the rest.
Mojo with JUMBO his Jag....he ate all of the runts and thats how he became JUMBO but with convicts I don't think they will be able to eat the smaller ones. But as long as they are eating and not getting picked on I think they will be ok.....the runts (in any animal that I've had) have always been one of the best pets I've ever had.

Runts IMHO are great pets but to keep the gene pool strong, should not be bred.
