On the back of this product I got with a 10-gallon from Wal-Mart (they're real cheap), there is a product that "puts enough beneficial bacteria and lowers ammonia and nitrites"... It says put the right amount in, and they suggest no water changes for 6 months, then do a 50%-75% water change... WOW

Of all the things i've heard, this is one of the WORST!!! Except for the time a guy said pacus grew to a "nice 5 inches" and that clown knifes grew to a "nice foot" and that arrowanas grew "7 inches, max"....

That's insane! It's sad how many people will actually follow those directions... :sad

It just makes it easier to sell more instantly. Its all about $'s or £'s. We have a similar store in England called PetsMart. Mainly a dog/cat small mammals kind of place. The one near me even has its own vet clinic inside, but they still allow fish to be kept in awful conditions and people to misled about what they are actually buying. It doesn't matter when you go in there, you'll be sure to hear people being given awful advice and being allowed to purchase far too many fish for the tank they are buying. Its not really the staffs fault, they are just doing their jobs. This sort of problem needs to be tackled in a big way. If it was dogs or cats these places would be shut down. I made the mistake of purchasing 3 small clown loaches, they and my other 3 large clowns were dead inside a week! Fish dont get recognised as animals, it makes me sick.

I'll stick to my weekly 50% water changes thank you!!

I've also heard of guys never changing an oil filter, just adding new oil as needed. It may work for them, but my method works for me.
