I have a 7 month old red tiger oscar. He only eats like once every week or two and not a whole lot when he does. What is the best oscar food on the market, and is there an oscar pellet that is a mid-floater rather than a top floater..?

That does not sound like an Oscar! The best pellets you can feed big cichlids are Hikari Gold. That should be a good staple. I have not come across a predatory fish that did not like freeze-dried krill, either. Try some of that. You can also try shrimp pellets, brine shrimp and spiralina flakes.

Besides the mentioned. you might want to try some meal worms and frozen shrimp too. He might eat a little more and be a totally different and healthier fish if he had more variety.

Good luck.

I know, my other two oscars are major eaters, although will try both the foods you mentioned.

Some oscars go nuts over live earthworms and also live crickets. I know that when my oscar is sulking and not eating normally I will get some large crickets from the pet store. They will usually perk his appetite back up.
