Expectations about growth?

My tank is relatively new -- 2-3 months old, fully cycled, and I've been adding a new invert or coral about every two weeks since it cycled. Right now I have a candy cane, a leather, a mushroom pile, a zooanthid (polyp) rock and another one I can't remember the name of (looks like a carpet of very low-pile "grassy" tentacles, ala a bubble tip).

In any case, I'm wondering what to expect as far as growth on most reef systems? Is it going to take years before I have significant coverage on my LR? Or maybe just months? Is there anything I can do to help this along?

I'm not trying to speed up mother nature, but I DO want to know what to expect in terms of how long it's going to be before I have a "mature" reef tank.

Are there certain corals or inverts that I might want to get that are 1) fast growing, and 2) a positive reef influence?

I might add that I am not using MH lights - just a combo CF (10k blue, 5k white) in my 30g tank (with about 40 pounds of LR).

thanks!

How intense are the lights? Are they PC, VHO or T5? For most corals, the intensity of light makes the difference between slow and rapid growth. If you have 55 watts of PC over that tank, you will probably see little growth. With 130 watts, the mushrooms, zoanthids and star polyps will probably take over the tank in 6 months.

You also don't mention your Ca and alkalinity. For good growth with the stonies, you will need to keep those at adequate levels.
