ok, so I can't take the skimmer that came with the tank my sister unloaded on me, it was called a "skilter" and was loud, made noises I can't explain nor understand...... my sister used to just block the air hose..... but I didn't see that as viable. I'm not really sure if she broke it with doing that but I do know that after having the tank in my house for a month, I've never once had to empty the cup...... it never seems to fill even a hair more than condensation so I'm not even sure it's working. So, with the advice of T, I ordered a new skimmer (Remora) and will be getting a couple AC70's for the LR by the weekend and things will be on the way to a better tank. The original setup of this tank was in poor shape but I'm bringing it into recovery and learning so much. Some people say SW is so much more difficult than FW, I'm finding that the level doesn't lie in the factor of difficulty here, it's just that there are different things that need to be done for a SW. If I were to have my choice, I'm dipping into the salty end ;)

I think the level of difficulty is towards more work, that we make for ourselves. Beginners tend to go over board with doing to much to there tank. Me for example I tested the darn water every day for the first 3 months, and any time anything moved on the test kit chart I was frantic to do a water change or something to compensate for the change, lol. I realize now that yes things do change in the tank from day to day, and not to get all crazy, re-test in a few days and if it's still on the rise then deal with it. Also alot of my problems (the 2 fish I lost) were completely my fault by rushing and trying to get the stuff in the tank as fast as possible.

you're probably right :) I can definitely relate with that, but having 20+ years under my belt in FW, and a start on the SW from my sister, thankfully I was/am well aware of the whole rush factor as well as the buying before investigating thing..... I guess I am in better shape than some beginners..... the fish are a little more pricey to be making mistakes with in SW too though.... I have noticed that....
