Eggs on my heater?

I have two synspilum (south american cichlids) one male and one female, and I also have a pleco-like catfish in my tank. It's a 75 gallon tank, but the male synspilum is pretty huge and i was told to let them have their space. Anyway, today I discovered what could either be bubbles or eggs on the heater. I have one of those heaters that hangs over the side and dips into the water. I've noticed the female synspilum hanging out over there lately, but she hides sometimes just to get away from the male. Plus, I thought (and experienced once) that the male usually guards the eggs.

I googled "on the heater" and fish to see if it would pull anything up, and it said that catfish sometimes lay their eggs on the heater, but i only have one catfish, so unless there's an army of synspilum/catfish waiting to be born in my tank, i'm not sure what's going on. any ideas?

My friend has discus that insist on laying their eggs on his heater. So it is possible. I was thinking it was because his water temperature was only around 82 or so, when I think it should be hotter during breeding. I think they just picked the warmest part of the tank perhaps.

Maybe look for some info on breeding them and see where they normally lay eggs(for others). Some fish will spawn on vertical surfaces instead of horizontal as I understand.

catfish and cichlids cannot interbreed. Most likely your cichlid pair laid them or snails. If the cichlids aren't guarding them, bet on them being snail eggs. Cichlids would either be guarding them or they would eat them if they abandoned them.
