Hey I have a 10g with a betta, and 4 bronze cories. Do you think blackskirts will work, or should I stick to neons? The LFS doesnt have rummynoses and i'm leaving in 5-10 mins. Tips?

Blackskirts work fine!

edit: they are a lot hardier than neons IME also

thank you so much for the quick reply!

EDIT: if they dont have blackskirts, will bleeding hearts work?

How many were you planning on? I have 4 black skirts myself and if you're going to get them I'd suggest only getting 4 for a 10g because they like to swim and will chase eachother. They also get about 2 inches. Mine were fine with my betta and corries so there shouldn't be a problem there.

Um, blackskirts tend to be a bit more aggressive than neons. You may actually have trouble - definitely get the short finned variety (as opposed to the long fins, duh).

I don't know if I'd keep them in a 10g though, as they get slightly over 2" in length and require a school of 6 as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry, didn't quite clarify my last post ...

My 4 black skirts were kept in a 30g so that's probably why they are all happy and healthy today ... along with the tank having lots of plants and stuff to hide in. But they are big. I have 1 who is 2 1/2 inches right now. I only have the 4 because these 4 killed off 2 others. I plan to add a few more now that they have been moved to a 50g.

Black skirts aren't aggressive to the point that they would hurt any of the occupants in that tank. I keep them with all sorts of fish including Bettas, cories, guppies and neons and have never had a problem.
