Tonight I finally went ahead and bought four more otos. I have been wanting to get more for a while but I'm very picky about which ones I will buy. Surprisingly, my local Wal-Mart had the best looking ones around, and I have been watching the same fish for the past three weeks to make sure they were healthy. Over this time I have seen no dead fish in this particular tank, and the otos seemed to be in good health. I was happy to see a bit of algae in the tank too, and their full bellies told me they've been eating well.
I brought my 4 home tonight, and when I floated the bag I noticed a bump about the size of a pinhead near the mouth of one of them. It's not an external bump - it protrudes from beneath the skin, like a tumor. If it is in fact a tumor, then I shouldn't have any worries about introducing it to my main tank. The fish are in quarantine for now. What I would like to know is, are there any communicable diseases that can cause a tumor-like growth? I have never heard of any, but could use some reassurance. I will try to get a picture, but I don't think I will be able to get a clear shot with my camera. Appreciate any advice.
