I had a pleco jump out last night. He was flopping and shaking and waking the dogs up. This was at 3 am. By the time I realized where the noise was coming from and what was causing it, it had been ten minutes or so. He was still flopping so I dusted him off and put him back in. Everything seems ok now, he just looks a little beat up.

Here is my problem. That little plastic strip that goes on the back of a glass lid has long since become too brittle and cut up to use anymore. Stupid me, I should have made the tank lid more tighly closed, but live and learn right?

Where can I get a replacement strip? I looked at petsolutions, bigals, and foster and smith? Does anyone just sell the strip?

The Big Al's I shop at sells it by the foot - you have to ask an employee for it, it's not on display anywhere.
I found through trial and error that the best way to cut precise openings is to use an exacto knife to score the plastic - you can make round, square or odd-shaped openings this way - and then use pliers to bend and take out the unwanted piece. This way, you can cut openings exactly the size they need to be, without leaving room for fish to escape.
Glad your pleco is okay :)

I'm pretty sure all those places you listed carry it and sell it as Blinky said, by the foot. They'll sell over the phone too. You might try calling around and asking your local fish stores. The chain pet stores (Petco etc...) at least around me, didn't carry it the last time I checked but my lfs does.

Hmm, only one I could find is here...
