gourami still aggressive

Depending on the spcies there is nothing that you can do, if it's a three spot then there's really nothing you can do. The betta was probably the dominant fish, or the gourami was focusing all of it's energy on the betta.

What size tank is it?

I know I'm far from an experienced poster here, but I've been reading for a couple weeks now. For starters, how about waiting more than 20 minutes between posts and demanding more help? Posting in the same thread you already started would also help tons... Even if I were able to help (which I might be able to do, I own several gourami's) I have no context to work with here, what size is the tank, what other fish is it with, what kind of gourami is it, etc... Give some more information and I might be able to help...

he is small and is with a couple other gouramis and a algae eater they have not grown at all so is not currently overstocked and he was doing fine until i took out the betta because i was told to by people on here and he has now become agressive.

first off, a 10g is WAY too small for a gourami of any species. Second what is the exact species? if it's a three spot, then forget it you'll need a bigger tank. Second, two labrynth fish will not co-exist. It's been known to happen, but rarely. They're natural enemies in the wild and the relationship definately carries on into the home aquaria. Keeping these species together has only been done in the past in large aquaria. Forget it in a 10g. Gouramis need to be 1 to a tank in small aquaria as well, more than one gourami will not work in a 10g.

i know its overstocked but they were fine until the betta left and when he was in there they were all peaceful and fine but not anymore. he is a opaline

I've read that dwarf gourami's can be kept in a 10 gallon, but really it should only be one.

All my gourami's are in the same 20 gallon, had I done enough research BEFORE i stocked my tank (i did tons afterwards) I wouldnt have done this, but since they all get a long great, I don't feel any need to return any of them, there was a little aggression by one of the platinums, but I put more plants in the tank, and now all the gourami's get along and coexist with no problems at all, they look healthier than they did at the store.

opaline gets too big for a 10 gallon tank, try getting a neon blue dwarf gourami, or another variation of dwarf gourami.

(an opaline is just a variation on the three-spot gourami)
