I've been doing research on the convict cichlid, and i wanted to know how big do they have to be before you can breed them?

from what I have read, you wont have to worry too much about breeding because the reproduce like rabbits. put a couple of them in a tank and when they are old enough you will have millions of them.

They do reproduce easily. Its common to get them to spawn in a small clay flower pot. But when they do mate, pay close attention to them. They often have a lot of agression. I'm not sure when and if they need to be separated, but you can google it. They are agueably one of the easiest cichlids to breed. Another in the running is the jewel cichlid.

W/ my cons, both mom and dad protected the kids. They would attack the glass anytime someone walked by. It is possible they might eat the eggs, or the fry if they are new to "the game" but in time they should develop thier maternal and paternal instincts

It depends on the flow of the filter, and the parrents. Mine somehow knew to keep the kids away from the inlet, and it isn't the most powerful one on the world(TF10). If you get a small sponge FROM THE PET STOTE (not one from under the sink) cut it to fit over the inlet tube. You can also use a clean pair of panty hose as a cover (hint: keep the leftover scrap in your car incase a fanbelt breaks, you can use it to limp to the auto shop.) To feed the babys, you can buy liqui-fry for egglayers, or just crush flakes into the eeeety beeetiest wittle peices you can.

watch out as well if your intending on breeding them, cause although they are resonable parents, because they breed like rabbits, once they have a new batch of fry (which can be monthly) they tend to forget about the previous lot and can eat them.
So it might be worth in that situation removing the older fry to a seperate breeding tank anyway.
