I know Bala sharks are only supposed to be about 10" or 12" but my friend has one in a 250g tank that is a foot and a half. He feeds is home raised guppies and goldfish as well as flaked foods and bloodworms. He also feeds it "the secret recipe" of stuff he makes himself. It's incredible! Why is it so big? Could it be the tank size? or the stuff he eats? He is in there with 4 other bala sharks that are about 8" to 10" each. He plans on getting them an even bigger tank! I wonder why its so huge??

I've seen a bala shark over 16 inches and I'm sure they can get close to 2 feet long if they're well fed and healthy. Its like that Chinese basketball player...lol Aren't supposed to be that tall aren't they? ;)

lol tahnx for the info. I've never seen one that big before so I freaked. He told me hes had some at 2 feet and 3 inches long before. Thats amazing! I currently bought some tiger barbs,do they get big?

Tiger barbs are aggressive lil ****'s that get to about 2.5 inches or so. Just watch what else you keep them with. I'd partner those up with a nice rainbow (ruby) shark that can hold his own against those lil nippers :)

Spartan: Thanks for the info on the oriental people. You learn something everyday :)

Really? They dont seem it. I have 5 in a 55g tank along with 2 Bala Sharks and everyone gets along fine! I'll add a Rainbow Shark or two. Thankyou. Why aren't they agressive? Will they be soon?

Red tail Sharks should not be kept in pairs or groups. They are too territorail as adults and one will end up dead.

You see the potential for the balas, and adding more fish to the tank will not help them reach that potential. Balas are not small fish, and should be kept in groups in tanks that allow for their cumulative adult size.

no I have 5 tiger barbs and 2 balas in a 55g the barbs are no bigger than an inch and the sharks are about 3 to 4 inches. I am upgrading to a 90g withing the next few weeks for the balas and keeping the barbs in the 55g. I have a shipment of 3 more balas coming in in about 3 weeks(same time the 90g comes in) so that will total 5 balas in a 90g. Then I will give them to my friend(the one with the huge bala) and he will put them in his tanks.
