I have a new 75 Gallon tank and stand that I will be picking up tomorrow. I can't recall the dimentions of the tank bit it is long and not that tall.Today I went out and bought an Eheim 2215 filter, an All-Glass Aquarium, fully submersible, 300 watt heater and a Marineland Maxi-Jet 900 power head.

I am planing on keeping Lake Malawi Cichlids and have to make up my mind whether I want sand or gravel and rocks. The LFS's that I have talked with recommend not using sand because it may get into the filter and cause problems. I really like the look of sand and want to go with sand and rocks. The Cichlids I am considering are Placidochromis electra, Pseudotropheus sp Msobo, Metriaclima zebra.
I would like suggestions as to what fish a beginner like me should try first and would like to know if using sand will be a problem or not.

you can use sand with no problems.just make sure the intake is up about 6".i would get some electric yellows, and a few acie's for starters.
