Hi, I have a problem! Having been the kind of guy who couldn't learn from others mistakes, but had to make my own mistakes before I would listen to reason, I fear I may have made another error in judgement. I have a 55 gallon tank with 2 ocellaris, 2 banggai cardinals, 1 coral beauty, 1 medium sailfin tang,1 very juvenile hippo tang and 1 Punctato butterfly who is now in a hospital tank. I am slowly accumulating live rock as my finances allow, but i only have about 20lbs so far. Anyhow, I feel my mental failure occurred when I didn't use a quarantine tank and introduced my fish directly to my main tank.Everything was fine until I got my Punctato, who was acting a little quirky in my lfs, but I was assured by the salesgirl that he was fine. so being the mental midget that I am, I bought him and put him in my tank. I noticed almost immediately that he was rubbing on the liverock, which I thought was cute behavior, but I was sadly informed later that that was a sign of disease. So, being the mensa member that I am, I gave him a freshwater dip and immediately returned him to the tank. I saw things come off of him in the fresh water that I assumed were parasites and figured he was cured, what a miracle!
This morning, however, I noticed that my tang was covered with black spots and my clowns looked also like they were covered with something rather nasty. Now, here are my questions. I have read about tang turbellarian disease or blackspot disease, however from what I understand it doesn't only effect tangs. Are the blackspots only visible on the tang or would it appear as blackspots on the other fish as well? If not then am I infected with two different types of parasites? Obviously, My tank is now infected so I have to treat the tank and not just the individual fish, does anybody have any thoughts on how to do this? Any help would be much appreciated thank you
