Folks,
I have now had my 30 gallon hex tank for 10 days. Thinking it's
getting to be time to do a partial water change and vacuum the gravel. Problem is I haven't bought a gravel cleaner yet, and I need some guidance on what to purchase. At the local pet store, which is a Pet Smart, they have a couple of vacs. The first is one that you hook to a bucket and get siphon going. The second is on that hooks to a fawcett (sp?) and you run water to create the vacuum. Since my tank is 15 ft from a sink I was leaning towards the second option. My question is what do you folks think about the above two options and is one better than the other. Thanks!
Also what is a LFS?

LFS = local fish store.

I don't like the pythons (the one that use the faucet), since they tend to waste water, and I use the old fish water for my house plants. If you have no problems or no use for your old water, go with what's convenient for you--either method works. If you have houseplants, they will love the water, and all the gunk that gets produced by fish.

How are the gold fish doing?

Air Operated Vacuum

I have a good vacuum that works off an air pump. Marineland makes it. It has a fine mesh bag that holds the waste until you're ready to dump it. My main vacuum is the Python, but this "air vacuum" works good... I'm not sure if your regular "LFS" will carry this product. I got mine online... "HTH" = Hope This Helps :)

This is the python which many, many people have and approve of.

I do have a python, but I dont use the faucet. I just use big tube it's self and about a foot and a half of hose.

OG, you do the same thing as my mom, shes goes the nurients in the water from the fish waste make a great plant food :rolleyes:

I have and use a Python routinely, all but daily. With at least a couple of dozen tanks, it is Python or shut down. The Python uses approximately one gallon of tap water to waste per seven pulled from the tank.

Ok..thanks for the input! I guess I'll try one of the Python cleaners as these seem to work as advertised. My only concern is how much water this wastes, as I am on a well, but RTR states 7 to 1, which isn't bad. The goldfish are doing great, OrionGirl. They seem to have adapted real well to their new home, and I have them situated where I can watch them while sitting in my recliner.
I find watching them very entertaining and relaxing.......

Good to hear things are going well. If you get the Python, you won't have to deal with water on the floor (and irrritated spouses ;) )
