riiiight here
Well, I've had the 29 in my room for a while...a few years actually. The rest of the tanks are downstairs. I am now going to get a new 55, and I'd really love to put it where my 29 is....which is in my room...upstairs.

My house is fairly new...about 3 years old. My 29 does fine up there, but a 55 is a whole different story. What do you all think? You think It'd make a cool display, or do you think I'd be payin for a new ceiling within a couple months?

I would think that it would be fine. People put waterbeds upstairs all of the time and that would be even real heavy.

...yea, i see your point. I dont know, I'm just a little worried about it at this point.

I have a 29 and a 40 gallon no problem.

I have a 65g upstairs and its running parallel to the joists (perpendicular is better). It is planted, with gravel - pretty heavy. My house is 3 years old as well. So far no problems (6mths).

I wouldn't worry about the tank going through the ceiling. What might happen over-time, the floor might bend a bit. Might....

You probably won't have a problem but if it was me - I would try to go perpendicular w/ the joints..... if you can figure out where they are (a stud finder might work?) Our bathtub in our master bathroom was placed wrong and as a result the floor started sloping over time and we had to shim it and add cross joints. It was a pain!

Thanks everyone, you've given me a big jump of confidence and I've decided to put it up this weekend!

If you want, I'll send pics in a few weeks when everything is settled.
