Carnivorus fish?

Pike characins are cool fish - someday I'd like to keep them. Halfbeaks are cool too, although if you're looking for aggressive fish they wouldn't be a good choice. Pike livebearers would be another option. Lots of choices out there, really.

It would be hard to find a carnivorous fish that would coexist well with the gouramis. The fish I mentioned would be better suited for a species tank, with the exception of the halfbeaks. Some halfbeak species are suitable for mixed species tanks, but keeping them with gouramis isn't a good idea because they both like having a large surface territory. I kept my halfbeaks with dwarf gouramis short-term and they did fine, but it wouldn't be a good long-term situation.
A JD would likely kill your gouramis, as would most aggressive cichlids. I wouldn't try it.

look...i think that if you really want to get some aggressive fish, the gourami's have gotta go. I know you probably dont want to hear that, but they just dont coexist well with aggressive species of fish.
pikes livebearers wont do anything to the gouramis. they are ambush predators so they will only attack something it can eat. awesome fish i wish i still had some. a tank with some pikes and a bichir would be cool. since you have the 10 gallon you can put small puffers in there, some of them are brackish though.
