Queen- My male Firemouth is about 2 years old now. I love his anal fin extentions. I picked him out because he had such nice finnage when I saw him at the LFS. The Rainbow cichlid pair is about 3in and 2in respectively. They growing fairly fast. They were like 1in and 3/4 in in May so.....
Bob- If the photo is larger than 70K you can not upload it and can try linking it. However you can also change the size of the photo or crop out irrelevant areas to get it under 70K and then upload it.

Mattimeo,
I am duly impressed. Those parachromis loiselli are quite spectacular. The colors are really impressive. That is certainly a compliment to your aquarium keeping.
Keep up the good work.

5-year-old Geophagus surimnesis.
I am testing the new upload provision. It didn't work the first time because of the size of the file.

I haven't kept Firemouth for a long time, but I am keeping a couple species of its cousin, Thorychthy elioti and areum. Here is a picture of the elioti, still a juvenile and I am waiting for it to show mature color. Elioti and areum have more pastel color and less aggressive. They are not as hardy as Firemouth and I lost several to bloat.

This is my favorite shot, an odd couple. The male Burundi Frontosa is about 11 inch and the male L. compressisep about 4 inch. Both are over 5 year old.

Tiger,
You have and have had some really awesome looking fish. I love the Frontosa comprisseps photo and even though the only geophagus I really like is the brasilensis your surinam... is really quite beautiful.
Thank for sharing those. They're great.

Hey Tiger do you have any photos of your Aureum?
And how do you T. ellioti and aureum get along with other tankmates?
Are they as active as firemouths?
Are they shy?
Aggressive?
Tiger15
12-07-2002, 10:43 PM
T. aureum looks very much like T. elioti. My aureum are just juvenile and don't show any color. But I have a picture of an award winning aureum that I took at the ACA 2001 show. There is regional variation of color among aureum and elioti and don't count on mine as good as the show fish. Aureum and elioti are less aggressive than Firemouth and will get along well except that they may cross breed.

I got some new salvinis, but they're too skittish to photograph. I did, however, get some decent shots of my 1.5 inch firemouth and a 3.5 inch dovii female, not to mention my favourite male salvini:
Salvini (photos taken without flash to preserve colour, so they are a bit more blurry than usual):
