my LFS are taking my pleco off me this weekend, :( .

i want to get a couple more fish, im thinking about getting a small group of kuhli loaches, if i do, what other fish do you guys think would work well with my tank, my lfs can only stock giant kuhli loaches which grow to 4" would i get away with 4 of them and still have room for more fish?

i might get another dwarf gourami, maybe a male this time, or is the one i got ok in there on her own, ive read two will swim together

Well, it looks like you are going for a bottom dweller. Have you considered Cory cats? They school well, some species stay small and cute, and they are diurnal feeders, so you'll actually see them in the tank. The Kuhlis could work for you too, but they are nocturnal. If you are actually wanting an alga eating fish I'll chime in with Otocinculus cats being great for smaller tanks. 3 of them could handle a tank your size. Hope that helps and good luck.

I think kuhlies will work fine - get 3 to 5 of them they seem to like being in a group - i've heard the more of them you have the more likely they are to be out - they are primarily nocturnal however, and you must provide some hiding spaces such as a log or cave or something - they like to burrow under things - mine squeeze into a group under a fake log i have in my tank - i have 3 in my tank and 3 new ones waiting that are in pre-cautionary qt - i like kuhlies a lot they are great - however i like cory cats a bunch too - they are certainly more active and they are just as amusing to watch they are always out where you can see them n they shoal quite well - with either be sure to implement a sinking wafer as food for them as part of their diets as they won't get enough food by simply eating the scraps
