I have a question.

Do convict cichlids and jewel cichlids generally get along or would that be war?

Would a 37 gallon high (30.25 L x 12.5 W x 22.75 H) be too small of an aquarium to keep one convict and one jewel?

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you! :)

P.S. One more question, how do you sex jewel cichlids?

IME, Jewels get along with no one. Convicts are pretty scrappy, though, so if you provide an environment with hideouts it MIGHT work. (He said, doubtfullly).

They'll be fine, most of the time you can't put anything with Convicts. Jewels are mean, but can go with alot of fish. With both fish, they are alot worse when spawning. But with one and one, you won't have that problem. I've seen Jewels kill Red Devils and Jacks. I believe the male is a bright red and the female is more of a brown. Don't quote me on this though.

The jewel cichlid is an african riverine species that actually does ok in ph 6.5 to 7.5. The convict is a central american that can take pretty much any water conditions. If you have only one of each and a lot of rock work, I think you might be ok. By the way, if you have never bred cichlids before, try a tank full of convicts. Very easy to breed and show all of the interesting cichlid behavior. Good luck!
