powerhead CO2 diffuser

Simple answer is yes. I just searched the forum for powerhead+CO2+diffusor and got two threads. Here's a link to the search. The first thread had some responses from people I trust who say they do it, so check it out.

So I'm still trying to find a good way to diffuse my pessurized CO2 into my tank. Right now I'm wondering if I can just attach the CO2 to the "venturi" line on a powerhead. Has anyone done this and does it work? Also what happens if you turn off the pump but leave the CO2 on?
Thanks

Im actually doing that right now, with great success if i keep the pump on minimum circulation. Im getting a reading of 30-35ppm of C02. However, DO NOT put it in the venturi, but rather in the intake at the bottom. If it has a small cap or plastic tube, you will have to drill a hole in it. It wont work through the ventura, because it doesnt take the water to the propeler to chop up the bubbles.........

good luck!

Mooch,
What kind of powerhead are you using?

This one.....

http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=MZ3117&ast=&key=

It actually comes with a sponge filter that goes on the bottom. Tn the sponge is a plastic tube, which i where i drilled my hole for my C02 line. I do loose some bubles, very fine ones, but im only running my C02 at 2 bubbles per second......

One other thing, make sure what ever pump you use is submersable, so you can place it right at the bottom of you auarium.

IMO the powerhead provided too strong of a current in my planted tank. Even on the lowest setting, the AC 402 was too strong for the plants and angels. I switched to the power reactor from plantguild http://www.plantguild.com/html/power_reactors.html. Its more effecient and the inhabitants of the tank are happier.

Actually mine seems to work very well on its low setting. Put it any highr though and it locks up. But hey, at the lowest level its making very little noise, and giving me 30-35 ppm of C02 at 2 bubbles per second, which is only droping to 17 ppm over night into the morning. Works much better then i expected. Im still thinking of making a external inline reactor though for even better effeciency, because i am loosing some small bubules!
