I just started cycling a 55 gal tank last Friday with both cured and uncured rock, and this morning I noticed two things: first, my amomia levels have come way down (from a high of over 1.0 to around .2 currently), while my live rocks have begun to get covered by by a moldy, spider web like material (bacteria, I assume). Also, the sand in my tank seems to have become covered in this stuff as well (especially around the rocks). My question is, I take it all of this is a good thing? What exactly is taking place? BTW, for the first time I've begun to notice little creatures in/around my live rock--such as a worm looking creature and little animals that peak out of holes in the rock itself, using a clear tongue in search for food. All in all, I'm excited about everything taking place, though I understand that I'm probably a few more weeks away before I can think about introducing fish into my new aquarium.

not sure about the moldy looking stuff with out a picture. Sounds like your on your way. when ammonia and nitrate/trites are 0 your done. Sounds like you only have a couple of weeks left. the worms are good.
