Is anyone else seeing outbreaks of Ich at their nearby fish stores?

Where I live we have 3 main stores to get fish. A LFS, a Petco and a Petsmart. I went to the Petco and LFS this weekend and most of their freshwater tanks have fish with Ich. Some are basically salted in the stuff. Is there a reason that there is an outbreak now? The Petco has had problems for a while with the quality of the fish, but the LFS is usually pretty good at keeping their fish healthy.

What bothered me the most was that the people were still selling fish to customers when the great majority of the customers seemed rather novice at keeping fish.

It's winter, more stress on fish when in transport, no heating, very common during winter months you tend to see more stressed fish and diseases. Although a good LFS will usually have good suppliers with tried and true shipping methods to reduce that.

Yeah, same here. All of the stores are having severe outbreaks of ich and other diseases, with the exception of one LFS which is always way better than the others. It's the only place I would buy fish or plants from right now.

my lfs always has atleast 5 tanks with ich, its so sad, you go in there and the tanks are green, and they have the dates on the tank of when they had ich

My LFS is having ich problems too. The guy who owns the store said that their supplier is not keeping his tanks as warm as they are at the store and its a newer supplier so the owner didn't realize until all the fish kept coming in and getting sick and dying. He's really not even ordering fish for right now until they can get things worked out, which impressed me!! One of the many reasons I like the store, but it kind of sucks because I can't just stroll in and find whatever fish I may be looking for. Oh well, I would rather have healthy fish :D

Almost all the LFS's and petsmart/petcetera's seem to have a problem with ich on their clown loaches. It's SO hard to find them without it!
