I started a freshwater tank the other day but it had already been set up for like 2 months with an oscar in it. I loved my fish but he got to big and i wanted him comftorble so I gave hin to the lfs and got some mollies for my tank. I did a complete water change and a good gravle vacume but I want to know is my tank suppoed to smell like poop. It is rotten and smells like eggs man. I am wondering if I should over vacume it. I know I have plenty of filtration and I have two air stones and three plants but why does my tank stink. Can anyone tell me how to make my tank smell better please help.

:sad I want my fish to be happy and smell free

Where are you getting your water?

Smell it before you put it in the tank.

A lot of water has high sulfur content, which makes it smell like rotten eggs.

I was feeding oscar freez dreid shrimp. I have a gravel tank. I think it is a Penguin BIO-Wheel model 175 and I changed it when I got my new fish so it would have been last thursday. I am using well water and it smelled nothing like it does now when I filled it up

I know our well water always smells like rotten eggs. I don't know what you problem could be.
