how to get rid of alge

is there anything on the market that will take the alge off of my live plants without harming them or my fish?

There are some products, but they can harm plants and sometimes fish if over done. However, you gota remember these are temporary reliefs, it doesnt get down to the root of the problem, which is what you need to do.
 
so do you have any suggestions on what the heck i should do? remember this is a brand new tank if that helps.
 
The light brown - clean off and vacuum/change water. It is very common to new tanks, by which I mean, almost all new tanks get this. It goes away in time. How about some more details on your setup and on the other "dark black" algae.
 
Check the algae stickies at the top of the page and ID the algae....then get back with a postitive ID.
As stated previously, we need information on the tank as well as the algae.

Just subscribed yesterday and my eyes are going crazy looking for any sticky on any forum. Can you help me out???
