Was given an old whisper HOB filter, it working fine before I cleaned it, now it won't suck water, it gets a couple inches up the tube and tries, but no higher. The impeller seems to be working, but what in the heck did I do? Thanks

Did you fill it with water before turning it on? Or try adding water to it to "kickstart" it?

It's very easy with old Whispers for the impeller shaft to not sit cleanly in its anchors. Try reassembling, making sure the impeller assembly slides in easily to place.

Yea, I tried reseating it over and over and over, primed it over and over....impeller seems to spin fine with the tube out, but when the tube is set on the impeller it won't suck....it is toast? Funny it worked dirty right away, started right up and ran for days before I got a skinny brush and cleaned the tubes, now this....

it happened three times with me when i turned off the filters (one whisper and one aquaclear) to clean the tubes. they wouldnt start back on. i, then, removed the filters, put them back, filled them with water and voila! they were back on! last time it gave me impression that there was air between the tube and the impeller.

Take the tube out and poke the impeller with your finger to kick start it. then replace tube.

I had a filter pump that did that too. I ended up using a small powerhead to "kickstart" it and a few days later I replaced it. I had it on a hospital tank for a long time after that and it almost always needed help getting restarted after a cleaning.

If I read correctly, the impellor is spinning properly, but not drawing water up the intake tube.

That's what I understood as well. Mine did the same thing but worked fine once started.
