Just wondering.....would there be any problems with mixing Flora Base substrate with Echo-Complete for planted tanks...?

I have some rams in a 29 and my PH tests at 8.0...I'd like to try and get that down without using all those PH up and down chemicals. I have read that Flora Base helps to keep the PH down below 7......question #1..is this true and Does anyone have experience with this substrate?

The reason I would like to mix it with the Echo-Complete is because I really like the black color..but Echo-Complete doesn't keep PH down....I really don't know much about either of these products...hence the questions...I was thinking of putting a layer of Flora Base on the bottom with the Echo-Complete over that...

Does anyone have any reason/s why I should not do this ?

Thank you for your Help ! :)

I haven't used either substrate, and am not aware of how or if Flora base will effect ph. However, since it's a planted tank why not use just the Eco-complete and add CO2? Adding CO2 will bring your ph down.

Lol Aqua....gadgets scare me ! I don't know squat about CO2 injection except what to call it...lol..

I'm trying to find an "easy" way to do this..haha...I realize that probably isn't going to happen, but hey, I"m going to give it the ole college try !

I may, just may venture into CO2 at some point, I really really like how clear and clean the tanks that folks use it with look.....but I don't have alot of cashola to work with ... I have heard something about a DIY CO2 system...if I can find out how to do that I may give that a try...

Here is some useful information on DIY CO2.

Also have a look at the sticky in the planted forum. Lots of helpful people there to answer any questions too.
