I went to a fish story in Houston and discovered a puffer I'd never seen. It was so weird and cool. It has green and black spots, but not like that of a gsp. Anyway So I ask the workers there what it was. They had no clue(and barely spoke english.) They didn't even know it was in there. So I wanted to buy him, he was $25.00. $25.00 for a fish they don't even know...Risky. So I waited. I waited to bring my girlfriend to show her. (She loves fishes too.) I was so in love with this puffer, he was so friggin cool. So I bring her and have been talking about this puffer to her for a while. He was still there. She right away knew what kind it was. She instantly told me I was really stupid. She informed me it was a Fahaka pufferfish. The same fish I own already but mine is a LOT bigger. Anyway, Cute story of my stupidity. So I decided not to buy him. fahakas are just too mean. I feel so wasteful having him..lol. I love him to death, he has so much personality and stares at me at night. His name is uncle. Uncle Fahaka Puffer fish

The first example that popped in my head related to this is my friend who had some Kenyis a few years back. He bought them all as juveniles and they grew nice and big (4-5" I'd say). The dominant male (who successfully bred more than once with one of the females) turned from blue w/ black stripes to bright yellow w/ black stripes when he matured. Still looked reasonably similar, but different enough to make you look twice!
 
Hey! I live in Houston too... Did ya go to city pets?? There is also the Fish Ranch on Southwest Fwy at about Beechnut. Have lots of puffers just be CAREFUL of health. Some are OK and some not... been there for ahwile... Good for you for waiting to buy the little guy. I am sometimes too tempted to buy first and ask questions later. I have made some $$ on tades - is tho'!
 
Villiage Tropical is another great store in Houston. The people are honest, realistic (they wont try sellig you a 10g and a bala shark) and it had to have been one of the cleanest stores I've ever seen.
 
yeah I'm in the sugar land area. I frquent Fish ranch 3, City pets and This small store that the owner always hooks me up with amazing deals.(its off of bissonet and dairy ashford) they always knockdown prices for me. Its a small store, but they have a lot of interesting stuff. Not the cleanest, but they have healthy fishys.

Pet city i don't like the people who own it. THey act like I am some kind of theif. Always watching me. I'm not one to bring that to my self, other than I am 21.

Fish ranch, from time to time their puffers look good. most of the time they look really really really bad. I got my fahaka from there, but he was healthy looking, I waited for them to have a healthy one. It was worth it. A year later he's still kick'n ***.

I went to a few places in the woodlands. I saw this MBU that was HUGE. I mean like a yard long mbu. he was fat.. It was crazy.
