I currently have a 45 ga., running a red sea protein skimmer and I have a pretty bad ich infestation. There are no fish right now, just an anemone, sea urchin and the usual inverts. I have a 13W UV light that I run every now and then and I've also been using a liquid ich treatment. My question is, besides the UV and an ich treatment, what else can be done? What kind of cycle should I put the UV on to effectively get rid of it all? Should I just run the UV 24-7, if so for about how long. Thanks for any help.

I dont really have any experience with ich. All I know is that its a parasite and runs about a 3 week lifespan. I'm just curious, how do you know you have an ich infestation without any fish?

I had fish, the ich got to them. I had a yellow-headed moray (?, also heard it called a viper eel?) Anyway, there was also a rabbit in there with it, and I think the ich got in through the live goldfish I fed the eel. I should've known this would happen sooner or later

For me the best cure for ich has been cleaner shrimp. There are other various methods, but I have not tried them. The only method I have used was the cleaner shrimp and it worked great for me. Keep in mind that everyone's situation is NOT the same so what works for some might not work for others.
Keep us informed and let us know what method you used and how well it worked for you.

Salt Water Ich and fresh water are definitley different parasites it is not possible to infect a marine fish via a freshwater fish. A cleaner shrimp will not sort out ich though some people say it may help if the fish have a high immunity to the parasite (other people say it doesn't help). If you are already treating the tank just follow the instructions on the bottle apply two courses of medicine if you are in doubt.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I should've known that the ich couldn't have come from the feeders  . Guess I'll just finish the liquid treatment and use the UV (no fish, just live rock)

Give about 6 weeks before you restock. That should reduce your parasite #'s . The best treatment for ich in salt water is good water quality . Ich is probably present most of the time in marine tanks and an out break is brought on by stress on the fish. That in this case was most likely caused by the goldies they have a pretty solid head on lots of s.w. fish have a hard time digesting them. They also aren't a very good food so you might consider feeding frozen foods they are much easier to deal with. Unless you raise your own live foods that is :).
