Hey guys! I am planning on converting my current Datnoid (aka Siamease Tiger Fish) Tank (190g ) into Brackish water. Atm there is no form of salinity in my tank. How should I go about the conversion from fresh to salt? How much salt should I add from time to time? Is there anything else I should do during the conversion ?

Thanks in Advance !

Make sure to use Marine mix salt as brackish is just diluted salt water. Also get a hydrometer or some other tool to measure the level of salinity in the tank.

Do a forum search and you will find out exactly the level of salt to safely add. I believe increasing the specific gravity by 0.002 per week or every few days is a safe way to go. This allows the fish time to adjust.

I have the "Instant Ocean" hydrometer. Atm I am adding 3 tblspoon of salt per week.

I will do a search thank you :)

3 tblspoon is NOTHING in a tank that large.

When I raise the SG in my tank I take a five gallon bucket and I place a cup of salt in the bottom of the bucket. I then take a 3/8" hose and I drain the aquarium water into the bucket until it is about 4" from the top. What ever salt is left I mix it with the water in the bucket. I let it sit until all the salt is disolved. (30 minutes) Then I place the bucket on top of my tank and with the one end of the 3/8" hose weighted down and the other end in the tank the "salt water" slowly goes back into the tank.

This is just like having a dosing unit.

The hydrometer I use is an Aquarium Systems, SeaTest Full Range Specific Gravity Meter.
The Meter starts at 0/1.000 goes to 40+/1.030
(The first number is the Salinity ppt I don't use this number.)
Freshwater = 1.000 - 1.005
Brackish = 1.005 - 1.018
Saltwater = 1.018 - 1.030
