Advice people please. I want to get some feather dusters at the weekend, but I have a few to many Bristle worms in my live rock than I would like, and some are rather large. From what I understand once they get pretty big they can eat things they shouldn't and I clocked one at three inches yesterday! I have tried to nab them with a pair of tweezers but it seems they can sense me coming and shoot back into the rock and Im not having much joy.
Is their anyway of trapping them or killing them in any way?

bristle worm trap

They sell bristle worm traps online or your lfs.I got rid of a 6 incher by putting a piece of shrimp in a nylon stocking overnite and he was all stuck in there when i woke up.Then I just netted the stocking and got rid of it.

Bristtle worms are NOT bad and the myth and urban reefing legends that are floating around are bogus. In order for bristtle worms to start snacking on ANY coral, would mean that guy has to be at least 4 feet long. Then again, they may not eat anything period. Bristtle worms are the foundation to any established reef. You can not get rid of them nor wipe them out. They come in on everything and burry deep in the live rock.

In short - they are good! Don't worry about how big they can get. The only thing that should worry you is being pricked by them. It doesn't hurt, but it is annoying and itches. People have different reactions.

So, keep him. Don't waste the time, money or energy in trying to rid something that does no harm and is good for your tank. Remember, they eat leftovers and stir up the sand.

Okay I will keep them, I just get scared sometimes of things in my tank that I didnt put there! I had to catch an evil stow away crab the other week, after trying to find out about the little guy for ages, finally found an lfs that knew all to well what they were, and he had one that ate £50 worth of clam over night!
I will take your word for it on the bristle worms and let them be.
