I recently upgraded my 46-gallon with a 96 watt kit from www.ahsupply.com The lighting is fantastic, and I'm very pleased. However, within a couple weeks (maybe sooner...I didn't check every day...) the glass piece the hood is sitting on had cracked completely in half.

I probably could have seen this coming, considering the additional heat the light puts out. Anyone ever had this problem? Anyone ever solved this problem?

Thanks.

I have not personally heard of this happening with lighting from AH, but I'm sure it has.
The 96's can get nice and warm. The only options are to raise the hood a bit or to add a cooling fan.
Do you have openings in the top of the hood to release heat? I made my hoods so that they are practically completely open on the top for this very reason.

I Just broke the center brace on my 200 in the same fashion. I just move the tank and was in the process of building a new light fixture so being the impatiant person thst i am I placed a hologen shop light on the ceter brace so I could do some work in the tank I steped out of the romm and heard a load crack came back into the room and the center brace was in 3 peices. Mind you this was a 1/2" peice of glass ARrrg. Thankfully I have lots of wood claps handy. I tried to save a few buck and purchaced a peice of acrylic but the silicon did not bond toit and it fell out of plase so I had to order a new peice of glass today. But hey now I have this really cool plastic lap tray for the computer
