Here's my story. I have a 20 gal tank, with no filtration, just water movement, with a percula clown and a damsal. Until about a few days ago the fish have been relatively active(rush the front of the tank when i enter room). I assumed it may be the ammonia, so i tested and the test said it was HIGH. water change...tested again right after..HIGH..water change...the fish have since been a little more active, but not as. I have limited the # of hrs the lights are on thinking it might be the temp. I also increased surface agitation to help with som 02. Does any body have any suggestions? Thought?

Temperature/light won't cause ammonia issues. How long has the tank been setup? Substrate? Live rock? Add anything unusual?

Thanx for the reply..I thought the light would raise the temp of the water...the temp affecting the fish..i have sand substrate.....bout 3 pieces of live rock..two mushrooms..nothing major....i think its the ammonia....

Well if you know anyone else w/an established SW tank now's the time to get some rock or sand. Get some bacteria in there to help rid that ammonia. If all else fails. Lots of water changes. Maybe even an ammonia detoxifier may help, but then you have the nitrite stage comming up next!
