You might want to check the shipping before you buy online. Some sites will really hammer you. Generally, its not a good idea to buy only one plant online because you will pay several more times the cost of the plant in shipping. However, it can be worth it if you buy several plants. So you might decide what you want and send in a large order if you want to order online.
If you only want one rare plant, try the lfs first. Sometimes they can get it and they pay the shipping instead of you.

Beeker, I just had a really good experience with my first online plant purchase from http://www.aquaticplantdepot.com. The plants were well grown, full and healthy. Shipping was fast and they were well packaged. Each bag was labled with the item name so a newbie like me could arrange the foreground and background plants correctly. Here is my 10gal tank planted just a couple of days ago with their 10 Gal Assortment. Two medium sized marble snails came with the plants.
