Ok so I have a pair of silver Dollars,
They have eaten ALL of my plants and I have a choice,

1 Give them back to lfs (Mum wants to keep them real bad)
2 Stock up on more plants
3 Use plastic plants(rather not)
4 Put them in a 15gallon until there too big for me and my tanks.

Please help me choose. :sad

Ok just a quick tip: don't say any kind of "help me!!" thing for the title. It will sometimes make people stay away from it. Just a little tip, I have learned;)

I would try a few silk plants. Try them out for a month or two, and see how you like them. If you do, then keep them; if not you have to return them to the store.

How about growing some fast growing stem plants in a Rubbermaid container or another tank and then using cuttings in your silver dollar tank? You'd have a constant supply of plants ready and might be able to keep up with the level of distruction. You could also try less palatable plants like Java fern and Java moss - I've read many fish, including SDs, won't touch them.

Would I need a heater and a filter for that tank and would a 15 g be ok

oh i'm sorry. that post is just in poor taste.

tinfoil barbs turn into very large fish. They will outgrow your tank eventually anyway so why don't you just return them now. It's a perfectly acceptable excuse for your mother I'm sure. You'd be looking out for the long-term health of the fish... right?

Er, did I miss the post with the listed the size of the tank? Maybe by the time they grow the OP could have bought a new tank, especially since it's his mum wantnig to keep the fish. Also, if you are saying the joke about frying up the fish in in poor taste, it was pretty apparent that it was a joke and I am certain YoFishBoy meant no harm. He's new to the forum, but he's dead helpful most times.

PS: Tinfoil Barbs != Silver dollars
