Hi, I have an 18 G cube. How often and how much water should I change???

I plan to mix the water (using tap) the day before and dechlorinate it and aerate it... Good plan?

All my tanks get a 50% water change every week. They range in size from 10 gal. to 100 gal. I think a lot of it would depend on the bio load you have and the type of fish on how often to do a water change. What is in the tank?

50% seems a lot. I have...

I have about 10 hermits, 10 snails, 1 green emerald crab, 1 cleaner shrimp, and 2 false percula clowns... also 1 alviopora and 1 mushroom coral...

Hi Val. Nice to see you again!

When I was being fastidious, I would do 20% every week. When I got lazier, it dropped to every other week.

How much nitrate and phosphate are in your tap water? Mine is awful so I use RO.

Can I use my nitrate kit for the tap water??? How do I test phospate? Looks like I'll be buying a few more test kits this week (including the alkalinity one you mentioned in the other post...!) : )

The nitrate kit will indeed work for your tap water. There are phosophate test kits available as well, but many aren't all that accurate. The tap water may be one reason you are seeing cyano.
