So anyone know anything about the Cherry Shrimp? Aside from they are expensive, breed in the tank, and red I don't know too much about them. Are they effective in the algae eating realm? Good for the tank? Good in the community?
no arguments here. although I have not tried my hand at cherry shrimp yet I plan to in the near future. every article i've read states pretty much the same info as the one above. in fact i'll probably be buying from that site since thats the cheapest price i've found for them.
I, not having had personal experience with AZ Gardens, don't feel truly qualified to speak on this matter, but thought you should be aware that many individuals have negative commentary on their shipping methods. I would suggest keeping an eye on www.petshrimp.com (click "Buy Shrimp") and wait until Mustafa restocks - his prices and livestock quality are incomparable.
I never tried them but with all invertebrates, be sure to look into if they need a certain amount of land. If invertebrates need land and don't have it, count on them trying to escape from your tank. Make sure your tank is sealed well anyway.
I think they breed rather easily because someone was selling close to a hundred of them on another forum. Or they may just be lucky to have a pair.
They don't need land. They are completely aquatic. They can't climb the glass. My amanos try to, they only succeed in bouncing off of the sides of the aquarium. The great thing about cherries is that they breed easily. The problem is that they are tiny! They can only be kept with tiny fish. Amanos are bigger but are very difficult to breed. They are also cheaper.
what do you guys think of keeping amanos and cherry's with gouramis? i had kept ghost shrimp with these gouramis before and didn't see any trouble. i should be ok, right?
I have had Cherries for a month or so now. They settled in with no problems.
Currently I have them in a breeding trap in my tank waiting for them to multiply before placing them in my main tank. I have 2 female forming eggs right now. The only bad thing is the other shrimp that I have, I believe is also a female. I need to go buy some more and get a male.
that's a good idea. i have an extra breeding trap too! i was planning on buying 4, 2 of each sex. and hopefully get some to breed...though i hear that they don't reproduce as easy as 'advertised'.
