Hi all,
here in Cyprus we do not have a very broad choice for equipment for SW aquaria and its VERY hard to find crush coral for subrate. At one of the lfs i found some, but the coral is very and i mean very finely cruched. i was wondering if it would be sutable for my tank. all opinions will help very much.

I wouldn't use crushed coral at all. I'd go for a sand bed. Crushed coral is nothing but a nitrate factory. Your tanks long term care/health will be mush better provided for with a sand bottom. C.C. can't compact enough to achieve low oxygen conditons required by your denitrifing bacteria . There fore it can't convert nirtrate into nitrogen that will cause you some big problems if you have a reef or want inverts. It's also much easier on sand dwelling critters and cheaper to boot. It really doesn't matter if it's silica based or calcium carbonate so just use which ever you can find.

Regluar playsand works fine, contrary to popular belief, silica based sand does NOT promote diatom algae, Diatoms use free Silica in the water, and sand doesnt dissolve.

well in the end i got myself some Red Sea : Reef Base, which is made up from natural aragonite spheres. look great :) and keep ph stable too(so the instructions say, ill keep you guys informed of that one).
