hey everyone,

I just purchased some all-glass versa tops and have had them on my tank less than a week.... Tonight I come home to find one of them cracked down the middle on the larger back portion.....

I was just wondering how they hold up for other users before I get the one replaced or just return all three of them......... I did not abuse it, in fact, it went on my tank and was the one out of three that I never opened yet in the few days Ive had it...... It was the middle top(125g. with two braces.) There are two 36" strip lights above the tops but from what I see I dont think that should have been too much pressure for it........

It shouldn't have been too much pressure for it... Does it by chance get very hot under the light? Only thing I can figure is a light heated it up enough and either that or a cool breeze/water splashing was able to crack it. I've never heard of anyone having problems with them.

I agree with the posts you've recieved. I would ask for a replacement. These tops have been used effectively for many, many years without problems. It may have been a piece of glass with a minor imperfection in it which caused it to crack with some minor "trigger".

Thanks guys,

I think I may know what the problem could have been....... The large room(actually an addition) in which all my tanks are kept runs on a separate furnace and costs me a fortune to heat in the winter, so I dont heat it..... but I heated it for 2 days just to help boost the water temp in the 125 quickly, then I shut it off and Im thinking the quick drop in the air temp mixed with the warm water splashed on the glass caused a crack..... A big one...
Didnt notice the crack before that anyway..

fostersandsmith will replace it for free, All-Glass has a good reputation and like all of you said..no problems for years.... So a replacement is fine... Ill just keep the tempertature issue in mind from now on..... Thanks a million
