Festivums +Severums

I personally wouldn't mix these fish with Rams.

+ Sevs will eat everythig humanly possible. I even tried Java fern with mine, being told that it tastes foul to fish and is tough as leather . . .

. . . Im now left with stumps.

Yeah, my severum does that when bored... He likes to grab a hunk and shred it, sometimes eating what he tears off. I had to tie it down to the driftwood with dental floss... Four days later he'd untied the knot and I had to remove the floss from the tank.

If you get severums, they'll redecorate the tank shortly after you put them in... I do reccomend floating plants for them... He likes the cover, and oddly enough, he doesn't shred them.

That sounds interesting, Thing is I float cabbage leaves for him to eat, so I wonder if he might do the same with a floating plant. His favorite was when I put moss balls in the tank, he loved ripping them to pieces!
bussardnr what size tank do you have, then perhaps we could point out suitable cichlids for you. Im guessing if you have Rams you have quite soft water?

Try onion plants. (Crinum thaianum ) Both of my pairs have steered away from eating them. Just make sure that the bulbs don't get buried or they will rot and stink up your whole house.

I have also had mixed success with some of the anubius plants.

Right now in two of my tanks I have a pair of breeding severums and a large festivum with numerous other fish in each.
As for the question. I have kept both pairs of severums with different sorts of small fish with no problems. If the smaller fish have places to hide there should be no problems. The severums are not exactly the greatest hunters of the cichlid world.

As for my festivums (both males) I have also kept smaller fish with them. They seem to be on the meaner side. My two are monsters at 8 and 8.75 inches though. I had to split them up because they were teaming up and beating my "nasty" cichlids up. They calmed down a bit not much but a bit when they were seperated. They still will accept a free meal of little fish when they can get it. Rams are probably too big though.

Right who I have some smaller juvy cichlids (rainbows, sajicas) and some small barbs with both sets of fish and I haven't lost any.
