Java Fern roots

I just got my Java Fern about a week ago and the roots are growing up not down onto the decoration its attached to.
Don't they attach to what is below them?

plant roots will go where they get noursihment mine kinda went everywhere I sort of aided the roots with a bit of java fern to help them get started

Mine just grow all over the place. Some will attach, others will float about.

Java Fern does not have real roots, it only has holdfasts which have no absortive function.

They're rhizomes, and it will take at least a month to attach. I just never bothered, the fern doesn't seem to care either way.
