As some of you may know, more and more people are using wireless internet/networks around their homes and offices. These wireless singals can go up to 100' from their main center (hub). So it may be possible for others around the hub to get the signal. This is why it is important for you to use a hard to guess password, and other programs. But lets say that someone you didnt know was walking by your house with a Wi-Fi laptop/palm. And they started to use your signal to access their fourms (AC for example). What would you call this?

I thought the inherent point of wi-fi was to allow such access if you wanted? Just put a password on your access point if your concerned with outsiders using it. If someone cracked the password then I would consider it stealing.

I dont get what your trying to explain or ask...

Wi-Fi uses a microwave radio signal to send data through walls, doors, floors, and ceilings, just like your cordless or cellular telephone...

Most WiFi products purport to deliver signals up to 150 feet indoors and 300 feet outdoors - in theory. In practice, it's often a struggle to get the signal into the next room...

That's because WiFi's signal and signal strength are limited, both by FCC restrictions on the actual power outage of the devices and by the physical construction of those walls, floors, ceilings, joists, bricks, blocks and anything else between your laptop and your wireless access point.

And what password are you talking about, nowadays even my dog can steal a password.

Sort of depends. I had a friend in an apartment complex that had a broadband connection and told his neighbors what card to get if they wanted to use his bandwidth. It all depends, really I suppose. I don't use a wireless myself. I have a router on my desk and a hub in my daughter's closet. I don't share well. ;) In fact I am DLing a 459 MB zipped book right now. And before anyone tells me is is stealing, it is a book meant to be DLed and listened to and the orginization that owns the intellectual rights to it have it posted on their own website. Anyway, I want my 480+ KB/sec, dangit!

Since I have 56k, I dont really care since whoever gets my signal will never be able to acceess the internet lol. :D. With my brothers laptop, we sometimes use unprotected signals if we find them around our place. So for me, I sort of haved mixed feelings about useing other people's internet.
