is there a light you can use for night viewing? I hate turning the light off at night and then not being able to see much at all ( I stay up late) if so point me in the right direction with a url or name.

You can go the inexpensive route with something like this. Or if you are handy you can try a search in the DIY forum and find out how to make one on your own and save a few bucks.

Or you can go the fancy/expensive route and get something like this and replace the bulbs with bulbs better suited for a freshwater environment and you'd have a nice system for growing plants too.

I followed something more like this:

The whole setup cost me about $10, but then, I had a transformer already, I'd estimate about $20 or less would be a fair bet if I had to go from scratch.

I put 10 LED's on my 33g tank. It's beautiful and subdued. Can't picture it though, not enough light.

wow thanks for the leads.

My lights turn on at around midday and turn off at 11:30pm. This way I have time to do viewing/maintenance after work. The moonlights do look very interesting though.

i AGREE the moonlights look very cool, the DYI looks kewl is your handy

My moonlighting is too dim to actually picture, but here's what a star gazing fish might see:

It's just 10 superbright LED's slipped into holes drilled in my reflector between the fluorecent lights.
