So glad that I have a plan for this. It'll be a cobble stone w/ fern tank with some red colored fish. Here is what the tank has now:

1 dwarf true color gourami
4 cardinal tetras
2 gold tetras

I want to add some platies (perferably all male) and round out the cardinals. How many of each should I get? I might give the gold tetras to the fish store, juts so they don't look left out in the tank.

I would bump the cardinals up to 8 or 10, and take the gold tetras back as you said. As for platies, they seem to do well in a group of 3 males and 5 or 6 females. But in a 20 gallon you won't have room for that and the other fish, so I would go with 1 male and 3 females.

Don't female platies get larger than male platies? I really don't want baby platies either.

Yes the female are larger. You could go for the one male and 3 female mix, or just get 4 females if you don't want babies. It will be a nice tank :)

Could I just get males?

Agression would probably prohibit this choice.

huh, I never knew they were agressive. I guess I will look for a couple females tonight.

One thing about females is they're usually pregnant when you get them from the store and they can have 3-4 litters (can't think of the proper word, but you know what I mean) from one impregnation. I've actually not had any problem with just males as long as there aren't any females around for them to fight over and they've got plenty of territory to stake out. (Kind of like human males in that regard.)
