any one heard of a fish called a datnoid i belive thats the name ...the lfs told me they were like cats...they like to hide and sneak up on their prey........anyone know of them? know any good tankmates.....gts? oscars jds?

I know there are two different sub-species of a similar looking fish. One is from brackish water and gets HUGE and one is freshwater and is better suited for the aquarium. Maybe an expert can chime in and shed more light on this for you.
I have one. They're rather shy, and like to have a place to hide out. Ambush predators. They'll eat anything they can get in their mouths, and will look out for themselves, but IME not mean. Problem is feeding. Very tough to get them onto prepared food, or indeed anything not alive. Can't post pic here due to file size limits, but look at:
