Hello Everybody,

I'm about to dive into marine aquaria. I will be converting my 125-gallon Cichlid tank.

Since this will be my first go at saltwater I was looking for some advice on how to start and with what.

What I would like to do is to have a mini reef in one corner of the tank and open space in the other. I would like to stock a variety of fish that are easy to moderate to keep. I prefer peaceful fish that are compatible with a reef setup. Also, I would prefer to stock different species to keep things interesting.

Also, can anyone tell me if a protein skimmer is an absolute must?

I hope this is enough info to get an idea of what the goal is. Any input is greatly appreciated.

If you intend to keep corals and invertebrates, I would strongly suggest a skimmer. It's not an ABSOLUTE "must-have," but it will greatly ease the learning curve for you.

Before you buy anything, try to figure out what fish/inverts interest you so that we can put together a specific list of what you would need. Check the fish and invert profiles/pics on www.wetwebmedia.com and let us know what catches your eye.
