I've had four Otos about a month in my 29gal. I drop zucchini in there about every 2 to 4 days which everybody likes, but I make sure that it has been gone a good 24hrs before I drop more in. Most of the time my otos look like they've swallowed an Advil tablet , but I see the size changing quite a bit. On only one I haven't seen to much growth the others are growing fast.
Do I need to cut back a little on the zucchini or are they great to be fat? :dance

Otos bellies should be nice and plump. They shouldn't appear overly bloated though. If they look too fat, it could be internal parasites. It could also be that they are getting too much of the wrong type of food (high protein, for example). The digestive system of an oto is made for processing large amounts of food having a fairly low nutritional value. I have never had problems with feeding various vegetables including zucchini on a regular basis, so I wouldn't worry about that. Another cause could be a female ripe with eggs.....if this happens, then congratulations!

The most common cause of bloated oto bellies is internal parasites, which they are prone to. If you could get a pic, it would help to determine of your fish are "too" fat.

Ive never fed my Ottos any food and they have been doing well for over a year now, so I guess the algae in the tank is enough

I'm trying to use up the last of the film for the pictures of my otos, but the largest is also the fattest the others are just plump.

I always feed mine (or attempt to feed) with algae tablets but they never seemed to care much for them. They seemed to be happy cleaning off plant leaves and the glass. Oh well.... I just won't be buying these algae tablets anymore next time then!
