I'm housebound currently, so I'm having to buy via online sources....Trying to figure out what the different numbers mean on different filters is confusing...

I am on a budget, so I already know I'm looking at a bio-wheel (or 2?) for my 46 gl, rather than a canister.

Can anyone recommend a good one? Not just the brand, but the magic number they're listed with?

:bowing:

Use two of these. If you can find them cheaper anywhere, give them the URL and they'll beat the lowest price by 5%. Usually Big Al's is the cheapest around.

These are very good filters, especially if you are on a budget,,I agree with Harlock ,,thats an excellent choice, you will love your bio-wheel once its established

why this

Why this and not a canister?

Beause hes on a budget and he wants a bio-wheel,,its not very cheap to get a canister+ a bio-wheel,but it is very effective

Aquaclear 500

With my 90 USG aquarium, I'm very happy with 2 aquaclear 500s, but with a 46 gallon tank, I'd go for 1 aquaclear 500 from
Big Als. But I would just use foam, and no other media, since you don't need to change it, only rinse it out from time to time - just rinse 1 foam at a time.

It has a huge capacity, and it moves 500 gallons per hour. It's also simple, and reliable. In fact, I like these filters a lot better than my previous wet/dry filter which had a huge biological capacity. These filters are simpler, easier, cheaper, and are very simple to do maintenance on.
