Effectively Siphoning Out Ditritus

Just wondering how you all siphon out the ditritus from your tanks. I have a large diameter tube hooked up to a smaller diameter hose...and it doest give me enough pressure to pick up most of hte stuff i want to take out. Should i use a small diameter tube with a large diameter hose? Just looking for some suggestions...thanks all!!

The benefit of the large diameter tube is that it doesn't create sufficient suction to slurp the fauna out of the tank. If you've got a tank full of 13" Pacus then go with a smaller tube.
